Where is Puntarenas?
Puntarenas is along most of the western Pacific coast of Costa Rica stretching from the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula, all the way south to the Panama Boarder.
How To Get there?
1) Fly into San Jose (SJO) International Airport plus about a 1 hour drive to Central Puntarenas, and another 2+ hours to South Puntarenas
2) Fly into Liberia (LIR) International Airport with about a 2 hour drive to North Puntarenas
How to Best Travel Inside of Costa Rica
There are a variety of Rental Car companies where you can rent any size car. The bus system is much better than years before, verging on reliable but a bit time intensive, and it's by far, your most affordable alternative. There's private shuttle services and tourist buses to consider, and you could also spring for a flight on one of Costa Rica's domestic airlines like Nature Air or Sansa, the first carbon-free domestic airlines in the Americas. The travel time is slashed dramatically, but once you get up there and see Costa Rica from a low altitude, you'll wish is wasn't.
